Incubate Annual Conference

For three years running Incubate started and hosted the Incubate Youth Conference for a 100-120 young people to gather and discuss, learn about topics of key interest.  All Conferences were supported by the Victorian Multicultural Commission and hosted at KPMG’s main office.

In 2017 it was the Changing the Narrative Conference

After an avalanche of negative stories that misrepresent minority communities, we dedicated our workshops to developing skills, tools and platforms to create and share our own narratives.

The ‘Changing the Narrative’ conference had four highly interactive workshops with a mix of subject matter experts, community panelists and facilitators running the show where participants got to learn how to:

  • Create their own media platform - Learning from African Australian media creators who have created their own successful platforms on how you concrete your own or join a growing group of content creators owning their narrative.

  • Media Toolkit Workshop - The highly interactive workshop gave practical tools to navigate and respond to the media including creating a media release to promote good news stories, counter untrue stories and give a richer context to the challenges we face.

  • Tell your own story - Participants joined our documentary filmmaker to create a viral video which we want to take global.

  • I want to be a diverse voice in the media - For those who wanted to become a media commentator on TV or radio, they met a senior media producer getting insider insights on getting your voice heard.

In 2016, it was the Accelerate Potential conference

3 Minute Speech Competition - The conference kicked off with a competition for 10 people to prepare a 3 minute speech on ‘Any theme you choose’ with prizes for the top 3 speeches.

Incubate Job Ready Program - An expert went through your CV’s, giving interview tips, that prepared participants to stand out to get the job they wanted.

Incubate Well being and Identity workshop - A panel of experts including a psychiatrist led a conversation on how we can develop a strong sense of identity and look after our mental health.

Changemakers - This workshop was for participants interested in leading or participating in change. We had key Changemakers helping participants navigate the system and answering questions on how to speak change to power and create the society you want.

Starting and Running a Business - For young people interested in starting or growing their business. We had panellists who shared their insights and answered questions so participants could confidently navigate the process.
